How to renew your IYT certification
What “renewal” means with IYT
IYT certificates (including command-level licences like Bareboat Skipper, Yachtmaster and ICCs) must be revalidated (renewed) every 5 years. This process ensures your qualification remains valid, up-to-date and compliant with internal and governmental standards.
When you can renew
- Renewal is available up to 6 months before the expiry date.
- Renewing early doesn’t shorten your validity — the new 5-year validity starts from your original expiry date.
- If your certificate has already expired, you can still renew; the issue date on your new certificate will reflect the date the order was processed.
Step-by-Step: How to renew your IYT certificate
1. Log in to your IYT account
- Go to IYTNet.com and sign in.
- Make sure your profile details are current — especially your name, contact details, and ID information.
2. Update required documents
Currently, IYT requires:
- A digital signature in your profile if you are renewing an ICC (International Certificate of Competence).
- A headshot photo (clear, well-lit, no hats/sunglasses) which will be printed on the ID card.
- A scan/photo of your passport or government-issued ID showing your full name, birth date and photo.
3. Start the revalidation request
- In your dashboard, go to the Certificates tab.
- Select the certificates you want to renew by checking the checkbox next to them.
4. Follow on-screen prompts
- Proceed through the payment steps. IYT accepts major credit cards and PayPal.
- Your renewal order will be processed once payment is complete.
