Youth Sail Training Week in the Ria Formosa
Our Youth Sail Training Week is designed for young adventurers to unplug from the digital world and reconnect with nature, adventure, and life on the water.
Set within the stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park, the calm, sheltered waters, sandy barrier islands, and steady winds create the perfect natural classroom for learning to sail and developing confidence at sea.
Throughout the week, participants live aboard a sailing yacht as active crew members, learning the fundamentals of sailing through hands-on experience and adventure.
As part of the crew, participants will discover the essential skills of seamanship, including steering, sail handling, navigation, safe anchoring, and understanding the relationship between wind, tides, and the boat. Every day brings new challenges, new skills, and new experiences.
Life onboard is only part of the adventure.
Participants will swim in warm turquoise waters, sail between remote islands, explore hidden beaches, and experience the peace and beauty of anchoring in nature. Evenings onboard offer time to relax, share stories with new friends, and fall asleep under the stars to the gentle movement of the boat.
The Ria Formosa offers endless opportunities for exploration. Young sailors will discover sandy islands, observe local wildlife, snorkel in crystal-clear lagoons, and experience the freedom of life at sea. The protected waters provide a safe and relaxed environment for beginner sailors while still offering exciting opportunities to improve sailing skills and confidence.
Inspired by the best international youth sailing programs, our Sail Training Week focuses on independence, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. Participants become valued members of the crew, learning responsibility, building confidence, and creating friendships that last long after the journey ends.
During the week, participants will:
- Learn the fundamentals of sailing and seamanship
- Take an active role as part of the yacht crew
- Practice swimming and snorkelling in calm lagoons
- Sleep onboard while anchored in beautiful natural surroundings

For many young sailors, this is the beginning of a lifelong connection with the ocean.
Because sometimes the best classroom is the sea.
